THats outrageous. Both the chess clubs I have belonged to have been free. Tournaments do cost about $10 though.

I just play at Barnes & Nobles with a bunch of other people. It really isn't a club but everyone there is around 1500+ uscf so they are experienced players.

Go there in person or phone them and ask how much the price is and what the price covers.

ICC takes so much time already, I can't imagine how I could accomplish anything if I joined an additional chess club!
