Chess Visualization

Hello all. I wanna know, how are you better players able to ''see'' 6, 7 moves ahead in the game and also envisage your opponents replies. Erm.. woodpushers are free to contribute too! I wanna know what everyone thinks.

and i was also wondering if to be a good chess player, one needs to have these ''blindfold skills''.

It is a good skill to have but it's not totally necessary. If you can learn to do it I'd definitely recommend it because it would definitely help your tactical ability, but also because it would save you a considerable amount of time when going through variations from chess books without having to play it through on a board! 🙂 Can't imagine how much of my time I could have saved but I still find blindfold very difficult.

As for looking ahead 6-7 moves, I only find that necessary at critical moments in a game, certainly not constantly throughout!

Can you visualize mate in sixteen moves without moving the pieces?

I should add that White is to move, and White will be the one delivering the checkmate. The point to show is that length does not matter if all opponent's moves are forced. I am sure that anyone who spends some time on this one, can come to a satisfying conclusion 🙂

the two kings are in opposition. black queens the pawn which then gives mate next move.
