Only Chess

Originally posted by King ZekeKing, let me give you a little perspective. What's sad is three-year-olds being thrown into bonfires in Africa because they were born to the wrong tribe. In all of the consequential things that happen in the universe, a good player whose integrity was brought into question in an utterly deplorable manner by a man or men whose chess skills far outpace their sense of decency and respect really doesn't hit the radar as far as something that should make you sad. (English Tal - if you were not in fact involved in bringing the accusations against this player into the public forums, then I mischaracterized your involvement and I apologize for that. If you were, then you're a lowdown no-good uptight passive-aggressive effeminate snit, just like Tebb.) Recognize it for what it is - the world's a rough place and when people don't get their way, they ruin things for other people out of envy, jealousy, and vindictiveness because in every walk of life, you'll encounter small people.
This all makes me very sad inside.

I rather think it was the last resort after having tried all other conceivable ways to solve this without getting anywhere.
We have a "Send Feedback" button which, as users of the site, is our next-to-last resort for dealing with problems. That doesn't always get the answer we desire, or get an answer within the time period we desire it, but it is the right thing to do.
If he didn't like the result of that, or the timeliness, then he's also got (our last resort) feet and he could use them.
We have a system of rules for dealing with these issues, and all users have an expectation that they will be dealt with according to those rules. People accused of cheating should be tried by the game mods NOT by the forums. People who make public cheating accusations should have their posts removed, and if they continue making such accusations should get slapped with a forum ban--whether their rating is 1300 or 2300.

The silence by the admins to deal with the problem is the culprit of the problem. Look at Erice1, he/it wouldnt have been banned if there wasnt a thread about it, the noisy bairings get the grease. I think if people hadnt of brought this up it wouldnt have happened atleast not this soon and I dont feel it was all david's doing, he wasnt the one who started all these threads, if you look at his posts you'll probably count less than a handful discussing the matter.
I don't like you. I don't like weasels who air their dirty laundry in public when they don't get their way. You told the mods, the mods examined him, they did not find him guilty of cheating. Then you come in to the forums with your accusations because you didn't get the result you wanted.

Neither did Tebb or Tal. I'm assuming that chess means more to all three of them than it does to me. I'm assuming that they spend a great deal of time cultivating their knowledge, and honing their tactics and strategy. And they do all this because each of them love the game. And so to ruin the enjoyment that a guy got out of a passion for chess because you didn't win, and you didn't like how the mods responded - that's repugnant and obscene.

I don't have a dog in this fight. I don't know Tebb, Tal, or Cludi. I do know that attacking a person's integrity and honor without proof is shameful. I'm sure that this situation has caused Russ and the game mods a great deal of consternation. Tebb and Tal did a shameful thing. I don't know if Cludi cheated. Neither do they. Only Cludi truly knows that. But they were content to ruin the reputation of an esteemed and accomplished player without proof.
If it were my site, they'd be out as well. Not trying to tell Russ what to do. I'll leave that to Tebb and Tal. But they'd be out.

I think going public was the right thing to do given the circumstances. The whole reason we got game mods to begin with was because people were posting accusations and compiling lists of possible engine users. This one may have gotten a little out of hand, but it apparently has gotten things moving again.
It is hard to say who really made it public first, though. Many threads were started, and vague comments were made in several places. So you can't really pin it on one person. I'd pin it on the whole site, really. We all got impatient and it erupted, basically all at once. That's never a good thing, but, well, again, things seem to be moving, so I believe everything has worked out for the best.

but actually #suggesting# that somebody is using one is a heinous , dastardly , criminal , awful, atrocious crime (( oops , repeating myself )) which merits nothing less than ostracisation and death ( with a bit of torture first)
