Originally posted by mateuloseThat is exactly why my teacher told me to play the KG. Tactics are critical in chess. You give a newbie a position from the Ruy and he will blow it to pieces positionally. But give him a KG, where position doesn't matter as much, and he will do better. Tactics are better practiced from sharp positions, and what do you tell newbs to study? TACTICS! Alas, this has nothing to do with the current discussion!
Ever heard of the quote, "tis the nature of the beast".
Basicly, the KG is a beast, you do one mistake, you're dead, checkmated in 20 moves at most, but the same applies to both sides. This is a well known fact, which is why I don't recommend the opening for players under 1500 rating, this opening is best left for the likes of ppl like Spassky. Your ...[text shortened]... your opponent in jeapordy, but puts yourself in jeapordy aswell.
Tis the nature of the beast.

Funny, most of the games I win are against the fischer defense...
i mean i could defeat a 700 rated player with the fred defence (1e4-f5) that does not mean its sound.
anyway im not trying to get you to quit the kg but i just think that there is a reason why gm's have stoped to play this opening.
