Normally, in RHP I can eat and drink whenever I feel like it. This leads to a more relaxing game, as the blood that normally circulates in the brain is shunted off to the lower regions. However your calculating ability might suffer. Also, by eating too much or partaking in the wrong kinds of foods might occasion many trips to the facilities, which eats int ...[text shortened]... ter and woke up to move only when the latter would shout, "Herr Doktor!" into his ear trumpet.
That's an image you all could have lived without but I just couldn't help it...

Is it prohibited to play in your underwear OTB? It might distract (or scare) your opponent.
Then again,it is said that men don't think with their brain anyways,so maybe it makes no difference 🙂
I'm back and can say I didn't get checkmated.
Won 2, Loss 2, Drew 1
First game, I'm black, I get paired up against the guy who organized it. (very informal gathering)
I blunder a rook early on and remember to take my time. Well I played it tough and it was getting to the point where my opponent was going to force the trade-off and win with his +1rook advantage or checkmate me. Then in true paultopia fashion, I find a way to sacrifice my remaining bishop and get my opponent into a perpetual check with my queen and a well place pawn. (that was close). Well a draw was going to mess up how they had things bracketed, (informal, like I said, they weren't setup to handle draws?) So we played a 10 minute game (semi-blitz I guess) I ran out of time and lost. 🙁
It's was a two match knockout (I was one loss away from being out of the tourny) Won the next two games (I used a lot more time than my opponents but won on some long exchanges (I can thank rhp playing for that.) Checkmated both opponents.
Final game, we are down to rook vs rook, and i had 1 minute left vs 5 minutes. I couldn't checkmate or force the trade/draw. Time ticked away.
Anyways it was fun to pick up real pieces for a change. And I can definitely say that playing RHP chess helps my OTB skills. My two wins definitely came down to better position in the end. Neither opponent blundering away the win. Oh and clocks suck! 🙂

Nice move with the Paultopia Bishop sack. Finding a perpetual in a lost position is almost as satisfying as a win isn't it? Almost...
Originally posted by SirLoseALotI have to agree. Even though it would have been nice to win the follow-up blitz game; finding that perpetual check in a LOST position was more rewarding than a win. (Did I mention I was one move from checkmate when I found it?)
Actually,it's even better 🙂
I have to give paultopia credit though, because it was something he said in the forums within the last couple weeks, that I thought of when I found it. "Its never a bad idea to sacrifice a bishop on a opposite-side castled king. " Or something to that effect.
Thanks for the great thread. RHP at its best.

Well, I was playing Majestic chess, a fun little cheap chess game, with some fun entertainment value, and one of the drills was "spot the illegal moves". Now, this was fun a stimulating, but I was wondering what was the point of this. Majestic chess claims that any newbie would be prepared for OTB tournies after doing their little adventure tutorial, and in tournies you don't play illegal moves, then I thought about this thread. What if you/or your opponent does an illegal move, and you don't notice it until later? Ie: You notice later that something is illegal, like a king kept in check, two bishops on the same color, a pawn on your 1st rank, etc. . .
Well, when I played tournies 10 years ago as a child, I remembered, that if this happened, the game was non authentic and considered a draw. So even if you are winning, if the board is illegal, even if your opponent perhabs played the past illegal move, it is drawn. This happened to me once before, and only once, although I was the guilty culprit, I "checkmated" my opponents king, with two bishops on the same color defending each other blocking a king's flight square! Boy, that was dumb, but I was 1200 rated then, and it was bound to happen once, the game was drawn. If my opponent would of spoted the illegal move the minute I did it, and I refused to retract, I would of lost.
This is why it is SO IMPORTANT to watch where your opponent puts his peices and do I quick check to see if his move is legal. I'm not saying ppl are out to cheat, most chess players in tournies do not cheat and took up the game as a means of honor, as many feel it's one of the few games you cannot cheat on, it's just that some ppl can make honest mistakes. You cannot stop thinking when it's your opponents turn, this is not only important for your play, but for spoting possible illegal moves if they accidently come.
If you need to use the bathroom, do it during your turn. Study the position for about 5 minutes and make sure you have it somewhat to memory. You won't beleive how being able to use the bathroom effectively during a LONNNNG chess tourny can help your rating, and whatever you do, don't hold it in thinking the game will end soon, because it won't, and if it does, it will be because you blundered.
