After a long think Anand decided to sacrifice a pawn with 3..Nf6! 4.Qxe5+ Be7.




Obviously, Black has compensation because of the exposed position of White's queen. But is it enough for a pawn?

It looks like one of the secret seconds mighta been Nakamura since he has been known to unleash an early Qh5 sortie.

The moves so far:

1.e4 e5 2.f4 Bc5 3.Qh5 Nf6 4.Qxe5+ Be7



5.Qc3 (Otherwise Black will gain time kicking the queen with Nc6) 5..Nxe4 6.Qxg7 Bf6 7.Qh6 Qe7



8.Ne2

This seems to be a novelty by Topalov. I wonder whether it was prepared? 8.Be2 has been played in a couple of games on my database.

I really like Topalov's position here. Nd5 is threatened. I think Anand has misplayed this.

This kinda reminds me of the fried liver attack.
For example 10...Nb4 11.a3 Nxc2+ 12.Kd1 Nxa1 13.Nd5
