He probably underestimated you the first time. At least, that would be my guess and you can't ignore the more than 200 point rating diff.

That's true, tt; I've followed his meteoric rise over the last eighteen months, and have been most impressed. I believe he will clinch the #1 spot at some point in the New Year.
I played a reasonably good game on that occasion, but minor slips here and there by PR gave me some excellent chances.

But it just shows how little the difference is between 2300 and 2100... the amount of study those 200 points take surely doesn't correlate although we can't really measure the difference in any way but rating points.

mmm. 😕 I think the gulf between 2100 and 2300 is vastly greater than between, say, 1200 and 1400, or 1500 and 1700. The amount of extra technique, knowledge, practice &c. required to traverse the 2100-2300 gap is - horribile dictu - something I will never at my age be able to acquire. I still marvel the games of these RHP greats, though, and at least try to study them as often as possible.
