What nonsense. Try Game 4244294 and tell me my opponent was not good, although I suppose you class my opponent in Game 2946195 as no good.
I really should have done better here Game 3078056 for instance.
Originally posted by SquelchbelchYes indeed you should have. In fact as I recollect you had a simple draw at one stage but as you lost it appears a previous poster is implying you are a patzer which, surely, is not true.

The Grob is garbage it won't work against good players,
A guy tried it against me at the park in April and I knocked him out cold 🙁

Then, by definition, a lot of IM's aren't "good players." IM Michael Basman beat many IM's with it, including John Speelman.
The game you cited isn't real convincing, since White played the rather second-rate 2 f3, rather than one of the stronger options like 2 h3 or 2 Bg2.
BTW, I'm not saying that the Grob is an optimal opening, I'm just saying it can give White decent practical chances if s/he is a good tactician who is good a wading through murky positions.

This guy knew what he was doing Game 4449001
Originally posted by AristolleIts not so simple. White can simply take to h5 and black its not so easy to prove any advantage. Also 3.d4!? and 3.Nf3!? seems interesting.

Originally posted by Dragon FireYeah, but how do I know what I am doing? I am not familiar with grob common position, traps, tactics. As soon as my opponent leaves the book, I do not know what my plan after 1. g4 should be.
You do need to know and understand the opening well as white or you will be destroyed quickly. But if you know what you are doing the results against moderate opposition can be pretty awesome. For exa,ple my results here are
P92 W83 D6 L3 (a few as black in the Grob tournament) and all of those lost games have been againt players graded well above me (eg Korch) who would probably have won with any opening.

'Aristolle,' the grob and garbage, hmmmm, look up the grob at chessgames.com and, perhaps, some of the best chess brains the world has seen would disagree...just who would employ such a game if it had no merit ?? I'm afraid your 20 move 'game in the park' has major holes in it...I only wish I had the time to confront it head on 🙂

Of course, I should have made some reference to what the hell I was talking about last post ^
