The best I have ever done against any Chessmaster 10th Edition opponent is making a 3-move repetition draw against Leko (who else?). . . It should be said however that it was a theoretically known draw in the Sicilian Sveshnikov (I was white). . . The Chessmaster (bearded) opponent is really f@#$ing hard; I habitually resign after about 35 moves. . . Above rating 2200 the Chessmaster opponents start giving me a great deal of trouble. . .

it seems you might be talking complete and utter rubbish - as though you are you were a garbage truck emptying at the garbage dump, or homer simpson in the toilet.
according to ssdf, nothing with 1/3 rd the computer power beats CM9 overall.
the closest is of course shredder on 450 MHZ rated 20 points below CM9 on 1200 MHZ ... deep fritz on 450 MHZ flounders hopelessly behind 60 points lower

Best I've done against the grandmaster simulations is a 60-something move loss to Emmanuel Lasker. That's the longest I've ever lasted against a Chessmaster GM. The Chessmaster complimented me for lasting as long as I did against the mighty Lasker.
Of course, before that game, I removed Lasker's Queen, both Rooks, both Bishops ...[text shortened]... to no avail.
Indeed, not many people can say that their most embarrassing loss was to Lasker!

I found the 2000 ratings on a P1/133 corresponded to 1500 on a P3/1200. I no longer use Chessmaster, so I cannot comment on its performance on faster machines.
But, Hiarcs on my P3 had a Fritzmark of 1525 (not an ELO figure) compared to 2742 on my P4.
see Steve Lopez's discussion at http://www.chessbaseusa.com/T-NOTES/051301.htm for comparison.
those games are at longer time controls pretty sure. i was playing classical 5 min and 3 sec inc blitz. and anyways who cares about numbers... 60 points below is nothing...haven't you ever played OTB and beat someone 200+ points higher then u?
In our weekend tournaments last week OTB, we had 4 upsets in the first round. 4 out of the top 6 players... 2400-2100 lost their games to ppl 300+ points below them. Not sure how it happened but it did. everyone was shocked so 60 points is nothing....
Gosh. Do you guys really do all that on your own time? I mean all that trouble with running different softwares play against each other, etc. etc.
I wonder which is sicker: me to have a dead end job and jacking off at the chess website each day or people who have no life and spend their own time doing the same? It is all a sad, sad story. 😞

I gather programs in order to test them--some I use for analysis, some I play against, some just play other engines (because I still have a life, however limited 😛).
By running engine-engine matches, I built up a database of 1000+ games that no one else. From these games, other software allows me to assign relative ratings to the machines.
The knowledge gives me access to multiple strengths and personalities that is far better than you'll find in CM X because they each play at full strength. There's a world of difference between tweaking a 2700 elo engine to make it play at 1600 and playing an engine that is 1600 at its best.
In the end, you guys make me proud of having no willpower to truly and fully commit myself to anything in life. This MUST be good, because the very thought of it horrifies me to become so involved with anything or anybody in life to the degree I see displayed here, in the "chess community." This basic, inherent lazyness and lackadaisical "devil may care" worldview has cost me two marriages and landed me to a dead end job, sure, but it has also kept me from any addictions of any kind. So I am good, I guess. So pass me that joint, somebody. 😉

You know, the bearded dude in the game, has anyone defeated him in a game of chess?
I enjoy starting up a tournament (say, Swiss system, 5 rounds) and using the different personalities in the program for each player. In my opinion, this is about as much fun as it can get with a chess program. You even get to watch the games between the other players, just as if you were at a real tournament.
