Is there 1 opening that i can use as black to cover all 1.d4 systems for white? I don't want to spend my limited time studying a myriad of queen pawn systems for black, i'd like a tactical opening as 90% of my study goes on tactics and endgame study.
Currently i am playing the scandinavian as a response to e4 and as white the kings gambit.
what about the albin counter gambit? i like the gambit openings which require you to play aggressively with rapid development and tactical finesse over positional quagmires.

Nimzo-Indian and Queens Indian.

I've heard of the Nimzo but didn't know that the queens indian was the response to 3. NF3.
Thanks, i'll investigate these openings further.

nah those opeings are very anti tactical. if you don't think the albin is a little dubious then go for it. Else your best try is the dutch leningrad

I've always believed that positional play and tactical play are two sides of the same coin. Most of my positional games tend to explode in tactical melees requiring precise, but satisfying, calculations.

That said, if you want a gambit-style response, how about the Benko Gambit or the Benoni:

The Dutch Defense leads to many exciting games. I am trying it myself lately.

Benko and Benoni can't be played in response to a Tromp, or the London System style setups. If you want an opening that can be used against EVERY 1.d4 set-up it has to be the Albin. However I wouldn't like to be on the black side of that every time I was playing - far too depressing!

The real solution is that you need to be able to play a variety of positions to meet any of 1.d4, e4, c4 or Nf3.

thats not true white can avoid the albin by playing kf3 before c4 so that only leaves the dutch leningrad 🙂

Or the semi-slav. Nice and easy opening to play 😉

I actually saw someone get TOASTED in a bunch of semi-slav positions in a park yesterday. The white player ripped the c file open with exchanges on d5 then sent all their heavy wood down it...

QGD Tartakower defense is your best bet IMHO.

You might also try the Queen's Gambit Accepted - less theory, and plenty tactical.

i read in some opening book by euwe that the qga leaves you defending until move 30 (if white plays presisely)

Leningrad Dutch meets all your criteria, counter-attacking, tactical, don't have to worry about White's set up too much, eg, doesn't rely on him playing c4
