I have seen rapid improvement before...but the strength of the player improving to 2000 in two months is totally different than the actual rating jumping that high.

Hm, disappointing. I had suspicions, but those were based entirely on his rating jump. He seemed to have at least decent chess knowledge, and I chalked his rating spike up to a lucky streak, he even told me that he expected it to settle down to 1800. His Playchess ratings are slightly lower than mine, and I probably play at a 1700 level on here - so I had some doubts about that, but I always considered it entirely possible that he simply invested a lot of time into his moves. There was also one other thing that led me to believe that he wasn't an engine user:

Game 4423552

I'm not nearly on par with any engine - and a draw seemed to lead me to believe that he was clean. He did offer the draw in a clearly superior position, but it seemed to me like a draw that a human would offer and an engine wouldn't. I remember Fritz 9 rating that position around +.7 when I analyzed the game afterwards with it. I personally felt that it was a draw, and for him to tell me that "this game is clearly drawn" seemed to suggest that he was an actual player to me.

At the same time, I have complete trust in the RHP moderation staff, so I doubt that they made a mistake in judging him to be 3(b), but I can't help thinking that this is very disappointing. I always hate to see active forum posters leave, and there's no denying that he certainly added something to the forums.

I'd also like to mention that the game I posted was played very recently, I think in late December - maybe even after Christmas.

What will happen now if a weaker player gets hold of a new opening book (with analysis checked by a ...[text shortened]... masters use computers to prepare their openings and can probably memorise upwards of 20 moves)?
opening & database moves are discarded from the analysis.

and nobody was talking about his cheating befdore, because cheating accusations in the forums are not allowed.

Unfortunately a quick look at certain members shows that quite a few have 😉

quite a lot of it irrelevant crap. I would've been happy to see him go just for that.

He may have posted some immature topics - particularly if it was about the Traxler, but he was active nonetheless and still offered some interesting ideas. I joined his clan, and he was active in that forum too, again sometimes offering interesting stuff.

Most players on this site ain't grand masters though.

Anyone who has played here for a while at one level who suddenly jumps 300+ points in a few months must be viewed as suspect.

There are several candidates who fit this bill and they are surely just counting the days till their demise.

Then again, some people will do anything to get their rocks off.

lmao wormwood.

true.

but i liked the guy.....but him going from playing me to playing guys like T-Rex and cmsmaster is far fetched.

i'll miss him but it makes me mad that he was 1500 and wasn't happy...i'm a lowsy 1400 and dying to get to 1800...(on my own!!)

well I just took a peek at his posts, and it does indeed look like he didn't post much crap anymore after rubberjaw was kicked... I guess those times just stuck with me.

I wasn't very active during that time, that must have been during my 3 or 4 month streak when I just didn't want to play chess at all...Maybe if I'd been active my opinion would be different, but the Ih that I saw generally just talked about chess.

He did post some recent crap like the "interesting reasearch bad wolf" Thread. If you read the thread he pretty much begs for rec's, it's funny because he didn't get any 🙂

Well I was 1100 two months ago, and I'm almost 1400 now - and I'll probably be 1600 in a couple more months, that's definitely not evidence of cheating. These rating jumps are clues, but you can never assume someone is cheating without checking their moves with an engine. My game against him didn't make me think he was using an engine at all, but I suppose it's possible he chose not to - the game was set piece anyway...

Yeah, but that was in the General Forum - most stuff in there is on that level anyway.
