I can compete with that!
So as the leader of the french defense clan, I requested that Russ or Chris set up a thematic french tournament which they did. I joined and my pairing in the first round included no one (other than me) above 1300.
To cut to the chase, check out move 9 ...
Game 2827934
after move 9 look at how easily he slaughters while abrely using his extra queen.
Now I am struggling just to advance to round 2

Originally posted by Dragon FireSomeday, you just might consider the truth. You may not be a player who is meant to be a great chess player. You must be "in love" with the game - obsessed... Your main purpose in life should be chess. If you want to play for fun, then go purchase Risk or Monopoly. Chess is not just a game. It's a psychological murder of sorts. It's a struggle between who is willing to go the farthest. It's the journey of Fischer, someone who got beneath it more than anyone ever has... By the way, you're losing to weaker players because you're bored. You shouldn't play weaker players. I have lost to weaker players, too. I beat someone 10 times in a row, and then I play the 11th game against them like an idiot. To use an expression of a great grandmaster after he had lost to Dumbo, "Why am I losing to such an idiot!" Najdorf I think. Nimsovitch? Is that how you spell it? This is why I tell people who desire to become a master or expert to watch it. You don't know what you ask. Your chess will become more boring unless you have the money to travel around the country on the chess circuit. You'll be at home in front of the television working chess tactics puzzles like I do. Mere mortals - 9 to 5 - can't travel around the country playing chess all their hours. The only good thing about being an expert in a big city is that you can hustle chess. That's why I want to become an expert or master. Your chances of meeting a chess expert on the street with the equivalent strength is maybe 5-10%. Good money there. hehe 🙂
Mainly because I keep giving away pieces against weaker players then have to spend hours analysing things to try and get back on an even keel.
How can I avoid such exhaustion?
It is easier to just blunder into a mate in 1 as then I don't have to tire myself out trying to salvage things.

I'm a perfectionist and an overachiever. I play them in standard chess time controls, never taking more than a minute a move. I want to know how good I really am. It's just for me though, to know where I'm at.
What i've done is that no matter what move I'm making I play it in the analyze board first. I play the move, flip the board and pretend I am my opponent.
Originally posted by ChessJesterIn correspondence chess you must do this. But even OTB sometimes it is a good idea to walk around to your opponents side and look at the board from his perspective. Then come back, take your seat, sad and disillusioned (because it looks so much better from his side) and resign.
