He was so high in opiates when he wrote from 65-71 that really; "Who cares?"
Who cares whether it is 'British' or 'English'?
Seems Wales, Scotland and N.Ireland can't wait to get rid of 'English' colonial rule, until the crap hits the fan and they then want all in with 'mother bosom'.
Lennon was writing from a 'very high' perspective, and being a Liverpool lad who'd been pretty much a 'nowhere man' was writing simply to try to rhyme and rhythm his sounds and lyrics.
To take the Beatle's lyrics so literally is quite an obscure thing for those who lived at the time; they themselves exploring new ventures and highs.

Norwegians than we do our friends south of the border. How is England our mother?
Do explain. Why dont I refer to you as Scottish? could it be that you were not born
in Scotland and dont live there? As for English colonial rule, you need to go to the
highlands of Scotland, i met more English people there than i did in England and they
are welcome to it, as long as they respect our cultural values and egalitarian
sensibilities.
You keep forgetting the fifth British Nation.
In a 2006 one of my Polish chess mates showed me a document claiming
there were more Polish people in Britain than there were Welsh and Scots.
I think it was something to do with languages and Polish speakers.
The Polish speakers out-number Welsh speakers 2-1 and 5-1 v Scots Gaelic.
Bells had three or four Polish lads in one of their teams once and we even
played at the Edinburgh Polish Club.
Good players (attack first, analyse later style) but a total nightmare spelling their names.

I think it is more important for one seeking facts to be more objective than one sharing history. I love hearing stories from impassioned history buffs because it makes listening more endurable. However, if I want to know the truth it is my job to be impartial to my emotions; It is not the job of the author of any particular history article to be impartial to my emotions. I come to this conclusion precisely because of how hard it is for someone writing about history to be objective when, in contrast, it is very easy for me to remain objective when gathering facts.
Hi Robbie.
Just played God Save the Queen
No mention of anything about Scotland, just Johnny Rotten going on
about 'tourists are money.' π
Did You Know?
The first time it was sung, before the new lyrics were added, was to welcome
Bonnie Prince Charlie back to Britain to claim his throne. It's a Jacobite song.
You are as old as me. Do you remember when you had to stand up at
the end of a film in a picture house when they played the national anthem?
I once got a clip around the earhole for not doing so.

The post that was quoted here has been removedActually i doubt its as simple as highland and lowland Scots, for support for the 'good
cause', was not primarily on a simple geographic basis such as a north/south divide,
but was religious and political as well. Its an oversimplification to state otherwise. It
should be relevant because lets face it, you need a national anthem.
