K+R vs. K ending is simple. But it may take longer than 10 moves to get a mate in some positions. Take the following position:

White: K@e5 R@e1
Black: K@e8

With White to move, can White mate in less than 10 moves?

I got three as the fastest also. White can play 1. Ke6 and then corral the Black king back to e8 depending on his response (1...Kd8 2. Rc1 or 1...Kf8 2. Rg1) which leads to back-rank mate on move 3.

White takes the opposition and then on the next move cuts off c or f file with rook to force white king back where it was in three moves ! Nice one.

EDIT : Another, another, pls 🙂

White to move.
No takers?

1. Ra8 followed by 2. Kb7# if black moves his rook or 2. Kb6# if black captures on a4.
