That's patently unfair, Bill. That was my FIRST - repeat, FIRST - query to any of the forums on this site. Nor do I ring up friends and consult them. I play a lot of games, have devised my own opening, and try to learn through (mainly bitter) experience. There was a time (20 years ago?) when I did look through a chess book or two. Not now. Who knows, maybe at some indeterminate point in the future I shall again. Different strokes for different folks, eh? Personally, I would find my enjoyment of the game depleted enormously if I began consulting a book (is THAT allowed by the site?) in mid-game.
