King's Indian Defense is played against d4 however I guess as in the main line (d4 Nf6 c4 g6 Nc3 Bg7 e4 d6) e4 is played you could transpose to it. Would be a little odd though.
Unless you mean the King's Indian Attack which I thought was a system for white. Hence you get the King's Indian Attack vs. The French or the King's Indian Attack vs. the Sicilian etc.
Originally posted by XanthosNZIf you're playing to win against strong opposition, I would not venture the Latvian. But if you want to have some fun and get some attacking chances, it's terrific.
Actually the Latvian Gambit is
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 f5
GM Nigel Davies points out that "openings which give attacking chances are likely to do well in amateur chess even if they score badly against the likes of Super-GM Mikhail Gurevich. So into consideration come a whole range of offbeat but aggressive lines such as the 2 Nc3 and 3 f4 against the Sicilian and gambits like the Budapest, Albin, Latvian, Evans etc. And these things can be great fun..."

In another column Davies warns you not to play the Latvian if you want to improve. So there it is: do you want to improve or do you want to have fun?
I dont see any 'established' opening line allowing Black to directly start attacking White's King side for 1.e4. There are always some variations of certain openings like caro kann and sicillian that allow to do so, but that depends on the setup that ur oppnent has chosed. your attack cannot be enforced. it might work against newbies but bound to fail against good players.
Originally posted by asimpereiraIt might be wise to point out that every opening is dictated by white's actions in some way. Perhaps the answer to the question as posed (How can black mount a kingside attack?) is not a product of any particular opening, but more on effective counterplay by black. Assuming white castles shortside, who wouldn't like a built-in defense that exploits white's kingside? Its not that simple though. White holds the initiative in a game up until the moment he gives it up. Black by the nature of being second has to wait for his chances and expose them.
