Maybe it's just the people around my rating not knowing how to play it that giving me false confidence.😕

I've tried the Bird and Dutch with little success. The Alekhine seems like a good idea, though - I'll give that a try.

I don't know if this will work, but if you post their replies it might amuse me."

Dude, I will do that next time I play blitz OTB. You have my word. 😛

If you want solid play with exciting chances and initiative, I recommend:

Against 1. e4 The french. The french is very thematic making it unnecessary to memorize many lines. Breaks at c5 and f6 are about it. Just don't get trapped into passive play.

Against 1. d4 I suggest the nimzo-indian. No gambit play, just soli and straightforward development.

As white I suggest the english or Reti both of which are very solid and offer many chances to outplay your opponent without reams of memorization.

We don't need any more people playing the English better than me on this site, thank you very much.

Against 1.e4 you can also play scandinavian. Some variations look alot of the ones from caro-khan. So it is easy to learn them if you already know the caro.
Against 1.d4 the nimzo-indian, or any other indian is fine.

And with the white pieces my first 2 moves are always 1.d4 2.c4, and it doesn't matter what black plays on his first move

exciting games? I play the alekhine against e4, the albin counter gambit against d4, both are sound and exciting IMO. As white - The Reti.

I'm starting to get really bored with chess, and I feel that *might* have something to do with my opening choices. I mean, just look at them.

I need lines that are relatively solid and fun to play. They must not require too mu my pawn structure too much in the first few moves.

Please help me. I need to have fun. 😛
It's not about the opening. It's about the endgame. Kingas and pawns, that's where the fun is. You can get there from any opening.

Try the Dutch.
It may be many things, but one thing it ain't is "boring".

Is a good blitz line, but is ahrdly suitable for cc play 😵
As long as black doesn't get greedy and go for the second pawn, he should be ok.

I don't think he was cheating then but I think he may have started soon after, maybe even during this particular game as his play after I won the exchange was diabolical and he almost snatched the game back.

I can't beat an engine. Absolutely no chance.

If fun is what you're looking for, I suggest playing the Latvian Gambit (1.e4 e5 Nf3 f5). Of course there are many lines for this opening some good and some bad.
