the Pirc is worse than the Modern Defense (1...g6). I'm playing that right now and I'm getting smoked by everyone 😳
and anyway, if you get desperate, you can always try Caro-Kann...
it's got to have a draw percentage second only to Petroff's.
very solid for black indeed...then again, we ARE playing 1. e4, so you could always go with Petroff's...
but 1. ... c6 avoids the King's Gambit.. which is a bonus. 🙂

Ever think it might be possible that you're playing the Pirc wrong? Let's see some examples.
Game 4250015
Game 4276671
Game 4229282
I can't find anymore right now

I sorta misread your original post wrong I guess. See I thought you were playing the Pirc now and getting smoked. The Pirc and the Modern have very similar themes, but they're both plenty solid if you play them right. I'll look at the Modern ones you posted and see if I can find where you f'ed up. 😉
Originally posted by Dutch DefenseWell I just skimmed through game one and there are two glaring mistakes.

First, I don't get 6...a6 Is that book? It seems like a wasted move in that position, you're not developed at all. And, of course, 18...f4 that's an important tactic to miss, after that you're in deep sheiste.
You can only really blame yourself there, not the opening.
