Hi Robbie.
"I am learning all the time GP, games from four years ago are hardly representative of anything."
Oh but they are. You are a perfect example. You were falling for these
things years ago and I believe the only way to get on is to actually get burned.
I can tell you all year long about the dangers of getting say back ranked mated
and
(DO you like that...'less enough'....I am creating my own language.)
But...
Rf5 isn't wrong. It isn't losing.
Thats right I said it.
Lets start with what happens if White plays Rf3 I think its the most logical myself...in blitz I might play Ka4 for the safe feeling...but lets not get into that.
White can't play Rh3 for a win...f3! and the race will end with rooks on the 1st and 8th swapping off the pawns
White can't play Rc3 for a win...Rf8!
White can't play Rf1(f2) for a win... Rf5xh5
Black still draws with Rf5 here.
How about if white tries to race the pawn? For those lazy types....
So we'll just adopt your advice Mr. Pawn, " use the king ".
but now that we know you've gaffed the OP on a move that wasn't a mistake - I say you owe him a pint!

Ha. 🙂 Ruxton loves this.
It's not my first lemon on here and I doubt if it will be my last.
I really should run these things through a box...................Nah!
This is more instructive.
I was right about Kb5 though. I never looked at the pawn race.
(that is obviously drawn.) 😉
It's a winning attempt in a drawn position. 😏
At least it's not a White win. That would have had Ruxton in complete stiches.
I seek solice in the fact that TV's endings are worse than mine.
He missed two ways to draw.
In the 2nd line. I cannot see Black pulling off a sneaky
win in the 'sea of checks.' with him going first?
Often first check in these positions wins.
See TV your losses hide so much. Get digging.
Originally posted by greenpawn34I felt safe saying its a draw. I didn't box it either - perhaps the motormasher can prove a win. I have doubts against good play that anybody could find a win in that mess (2nd diagram). Although on a board perhaps black could get lucky by a white slip-up...

You were definitely right about Kb5 - thats just proper technique. Rf5 would be the move a master would see, but dismiss as too risky vs. Kb5 I'm sure. Still as you said Mr. Pawn it is instructive.
Who is this Ruxton you speak of? Not FM Keith Ruxton I dare say?

Running fast isn't all about leg strength... there is also a technique to it and you can learn to run faster by watching video of yourself running and seeing what you are doing wrong. Basically, the only way how to improve at anything is to remove the weaknesses that keep you from being better.
