Example when a player such as Dustnrodgers screwed everyone's rating, took on many games as much as 500, delayed those he played then pretends to go on vacation, and let all time run out causing those with close rating at the start to suffer. file a complaint to redhot pawn, tell others on dustnrodgers to do the same, i personally lost 70 points when his flag timeout, and i gave him much time to come back, and he laughed.
Originally posted by floridaflagPersonally I can understand his frustration, look at Dustnrodgers rating charts, it's up and down like crazy. It's obvious the dude plays more games then he can handle and play to his ability, and seeing that ratings are calculated when the game is finished, and not started, this manipulates the rating charts a lot. Basicly, because of Dustnrodgers, up to 500 RHP games are irregular anamolies, this cannot be good for the site. I hate to say it, but perhabs, even for subscripers, a game limit of rated games may be needed.

I also think it's madness to play that many games,but hey,if that's what people enjoy,it's fine by me 🙂

Originally posted by OuermyhteNot really as players' ratings can rise sharply as well.
wdnt it make sense for the rating the players start the game with to be used in the calculation? that wd stop stuff like that screwing stuff up

The one consolation is, that further a player is from their true rating the bigger the corrections will be as they lose/win games.
So in the medium term it doesn't really matter. Class is permanent, form is temporary (just ask a Liverpool supporter😉)
Originally posted by RavelloIf it was tourney or clan,I would have timed him out before he got back.If it was a friendly,it would cost me some points,I don't mind that much,I've lost to some low provisionals before,though that's not the same.Besides,you can stall the game,wait for his rating to get back up.

Anyway,I didn't say it wasn't a problem,I said it wasn't the fault of the system,but the player's.
I like Ouermyhte's idea,calculate ratings at the start of the game,not the end.

You start playing a 1800 player when they are rated only at 800, a month later you lose. Sure their rating is now ~1800 but you are still judged on the starting 800.
Originally posted by The Swine Down Hopeperhaps an average of the beginning and ending ratings then? or an average of a moving average

(say Bloop, who is 800 rated, is playing Bleep, who is also 800 rated-
u cd take a moving average of each player's rating across each 3 day period, then average them or use them all in the calculation;
day 1 2 3 4 5 6
Bloop 800 800 800 800 900 750
Bleep 800 900 1000 1050 1200 1300
so u take averages of their ratings on days 1,2 and 3, 2,3 and 4,
3,4 and 5 and 4, 5 and 6;
Bloop Bleep
123 800 900
234 800 983
345 833 1083
456 816 1183
Avg. 812 1037
this wd take into account how the rating changed during the match, i think i did it rite, havent done maths for over a year lol

EDIT: k the tables wd b a lot clearer if the **** ******* forum wd allow multiple spaces ðŸ˜
According to Dustin's personal page he was kicked out of his apartment and the computer, of course, went too. He said he was sorry but there was nothing he could do about it at the present. In his shoes I'd be more concerned about where to lay my head than I would about rating points. I have him on vacation flag, and there it will stay. I considered cleaning up my game list by cashing in, but i thought better of it. His rating is now so low it wouldn't make much difference anyway. As my policy, I don't take victories of people with vacation flags. So far nobody seems to have abused it, although people have claimed wins when i was on vacation.
Originally posted by The Swine Down HopeEstablished players usually don't have ratingjumps of 1000 points in 1 month.Provisionals do,that's always a gamble,but losing to a provisional doesn't affect your rating that much,I think.

Whichever system is applied,it will never be perfect.
Just for the record,I'm not only talking about dustin's case,there are more players who have a massive amount of games,and occasionally suffer lots of time outs.It's a problem,inherent to the MAP wars.
