Ok, my chess club is holding a in club tournament tomorrow, and I feel that I am good enough to win the thing.
The games will be about 5-10 mins per side, most likely double elimination.

Do you guys have any tips that would help me before or during the tourney?

It's a bit late to be asking for advice... anyway, since it's blitz, tactics will be important, so brush up on your tactics if necessary

I dont need specific advice, as I am prepared for the games already.

I just want to know how you guys get mentally ready and what not.
Also, anything that you guys would avoid during the games would be nice to know.

For blitz, the USCF rules are if you make an illegal move you're done. So think a bit before you make a move but don't take too long. Most people tend to go fast and lose with 2 minutes still left on their clock

If you are playing against inexperienced players I would play a closed opening that allowed you to make automatic moves, Like the KIA for white and similar for black depending on white's move.

They may be so rushed with the clock that they fling themselves on the rocks. You should just try to push a pawn for a gain in space and improve the your position.

If he/she moves out a knight then kill it's forward squares.... give him/her nothing to cling to.

Oh, and eat your vitamins perhaps some ginko beloba and have a nice long sleep the night before and maybe a good defication.

A couple of tequilas and a good blunt should make the job.

Everyone will be astonished by your Tal-looking sacrifices.

5-10 minutes is longer than you think. Don't panic.

I tried to beat a 149 player usingf 2 minutes of my 7 minute allocation.

I'd kick your ass. Even on this site with my policy of not trying and not given a damn.

I won the tournament today. It wasnt as hard as I thought it would be.

Thanks for the King's Indian Attack suggestion as I used it in all of my games. 🙂

I'm sure the opening isn't what did it for you. I probably should have mentioned checking out my Chess Improvement thread, but your post was pretty last minute.

Well, I spent a lot of time the night before working on tactics in order to sharpen my skills.
The opening system was nice because i could make 7-8 moves without much thought. I also used some crafty pawn moves to make my opponents eat time.
