puts the king right next to the diagonal I control, so it shouldn't be easier...
I'd probably still go with h4 and attack him like that, with Nf3 to follow, my attacking idea probably would have been very similar, and I do not believe that it would have mattered...
Originally posted by rubberjaw30I did too. I wouldn't have found the first sac for sure because I am not(as you probably can already tell) the best positional player around but I might have found the second one because it is more tactical.
and the finishing was just, modesty aside, my very best.
I thought it was beautiful.

I dunno how good this sac was, but here you go...
Game 3289191
Originally posted by rubberjaw30It was correct, but with best play white would get an endgame that would be at least equal after 17. Qe1! Bxd4+ 18. Nxd4 Rxe1 19. Rfxe1 Bd7 20. Re7 f6 21. Rae1.
that was sound?
Or 18. Qxb2 Nc4 19. Bf2! Nxb2 20. Nxe2 Bd6 21. Nc3 c6 22. Rfe1 Kf8! with a slightly better endgame for black, I think.
Originally posted by GalaxyShieldpretty sweet! Funny enough my fritz found the sac immediately. Wierd that it finds some like that and misses others (as in Vipiu's game).
This has been posted a lot already, but it meets both criteria you asked for.

I'm pretty sure it's not sound, but I want to at least have Fritz tell me it's unsound.
here is one with a pawn sac and a rook sac.
Game 4259572
my opponent did make an obvious blunder though.

black must play e6 first, and I always thought the Advance Variation favored black, since d4 is SO easy to attack.
Originally posted by rubberjaw30But most people don't know what to do when faced with the advanced variation and if they do it only favors black in as much as being on the better side of a draw at least to my experience with it.

Edit: and a pretty mate occurs after 1...Rb7(forced)2.Qxc6+ Kd8 3.Bf6+ Re7 4.Qd7#
Originally posted by tomtom232so you were willing to bet that black didn't know how to destroy the Advanced Variation?

I'd LOVE for you to play an Advanced Caro-Kann in game four of our tourney.
then, we wouldn' need bother with game 5!
Originally posted by rubberjaw30I am going to play it now just to prove that it can still draw or even win if you screw up.
