Why are you complaining about no GM's being here when your rating is 1900 USCF? Tebb's real rating is around 2300 FIDE, being that he got offered the title. He should be a good enough challenge, playing a GM doesn't matter if players lo ...[text shortened]... nce of beating you. 1900 is pretty good for a 16 year old though.

still not a master π , a master is 2300 fide. sry
I had a rating over 2300 for many years and was offered the FM title by the British Chess Federation. However I refused to pay an 'administration fee' of £100 to the BCF, and therefore declined the title.
In recent years (shock, horror) my rating has slipped. Perhaps it's just as well I didn't get the title, because people would now be saying I didn't deserve it!

Regardless, I think one of the big advantages of RHP is that it's intimate, and any reasonably good player (unlike me, sadly) has an excellent chance of getting to play many games against the very best on the site.
I think the rating system makes that more difficult though (for good players, that is). For example ELO and national ratings have provisional system, which means after playing certain amount of games, they calculate your performance rating. That means you get a rating that approximately matches your level pretty fast. Here a strong player has to play many many games before having the rating that matches his level, and as long as he is underrated, he will (propably?) have difficulties in finding challenging opponents. In the end he will get accurate rating of course, but especially when playing correspondence chess, it will take a long time...
IN red hot pawn, many people will never achieve there actual level in rating. For instance, if david tebb is about 2300 FIDE then he would be about 2400 Uscf and here he is 2000, so that means that people that are 2000 in level will never achieve that because they will have to go through 2400 players , and so on, its a cycle.

I think the guy was just looking at the rateings.. The numbers are a lot lower but they realy don't mean any thing. When I played a lot I had a ICC rating in the 1800s and I feel many of the 1300 to 1400s here are atleast that good. π Besides I come to this site because coorespondence chess is a great way to learn and get better.
Originally posted by knightlightExactly!I currently have an ICC rating of 1880 and I'm playing a few 1400's here.I find them to be at least very close to my level if not equal or even better.Thing is the corr ratings are +-300 points lower than OTB ratings. At least, that's what I thinkπ

Originally posted by crazycohenI would like to throw in my two cents. I play on RedHotPawn because, here at work, we are behind a firewall and ICC's software is not configurable enough to get around the firewall. RHP, on the other hand, is completely unaffected by firewalls. This is the only place I have been able to find anything even similar to real-time chess behind a firewall. Yahoo! Chess does'nt even begin to work. If anyone has found a program that will circumvent a firewall, I am all ears. Until then, RHP rules!
Im sorry to say this but, Red Hot Pawn is a joke.... The best internet chess without a doubt is ICC. ICC has about 80 GM's and hundreds of IM's and FM's and NM's which you can also recieve lessons from. I just started playing here for fun, and there is absolutly no one of master level....
