In general better players resign before mate, so those games never get to the front page. Of my games that ended in mate I kind of like one where my opponent allowed me to finish with Philidor's mate, which was a nice gesture.

You may recall Kramnik missing a mate in one. If he had spotted the mate after his move but before his opponents should he have resigned?
If positions are otherwise even save for the pesky mating opportunity, I think you are entitled to see if your opponent has spotted it?
