Game 845365

All of us vs the big bad Fritz.

Here how it should work (In theory)

RHP members suggest candidate moves, debate variations etc afer a set period of time the moves are then listed. People then recommend the move that they want to choose the played RHP'ers move, the top move is the one that No1 will play.

We'll probably come across some bumps in the path but im sure we'll be able to work them out.

One thing that shouldnt be used or posted is peoples own fritz analysis. It would take all the fun out of the game.

Id suggest say two days of debate about the opening move and then two days of voting, does that sound sensible? Nothing is really set in stone, if most people want a longer move time then we'll take longer move times etc.

Lets kick some computer butt :-)

Just to make this clear, dont rec peoples posts about moves while debating. The candidate moves will be listed at the end of the debating period and then rec'ed to keep everything neat and together. The one with the most recs is the move of choice.

1. e4

Why? Because it's the one I am most familiar with. And, because it's solid.

In general we should play for a closed opening. In theory computers have harder times with closed openings. This might suggest that we play d4 instead, but I like e4 still.

:-) It would be nice for a reason after moves.

ie d4. computers can not play positional games as well as the tactical openings offered by e4.

What opening would you want to play with e4 ?

Sorry, I editted in some reasoning. What opening? Depends on what Fritz does.

Didn't you have an account named Fritz8? Why aren't we using that one?

No I dont have an account called Fritz8.

I too think the opening should be closed, fritz will just slap us about in tactics/forced variations. We need something that fritz cant turn tactical, where we can get a long term positional advantage.

Thats up to how people feel but lets try about 2-3 days from now. Say aiming for 12:01 (am) GMT 23/12/04 then someone lists the moves and then they are rec'ed for a day. I dont think we should keep it to the minute, but just a general idea.

One question is who should list the moves to be rec'ed. I think Tony should, (if hes willing 🙂 ) hes the mod of the chess forum and clearly hasnt got any intrest in getting undue recs unlike some rec happy people. The recs are only a primitive voting system.

Who is Fritz8Computer?

http://www.redhotpawn.com/profile/playerprofile.php?uid=114989

It's not a member and it has 6 games, so we can't use it anyway, but if it's not you I am curious.

Why doesn't someone just play James Woodley. I'm sure we'd get a similar result. 😉

Hey, you aren't supposed to say his name anymore! Not fair.

Anyways...I'm going to have to vote for e4, just because it is the first opening I ever learned...

Osse posted a link a while back that showed a system for beating fritz using b4. Theres also a bit of theory about getting the engine to place its peices on the queenside and then going for a kingside attack. Its that sort of long term plan that might give us our best chances.

Id go for d4/c4. Leaning more towards c4.

I think e4 is just begging for fritz to the game open.

I go with 1. e4. There are plenty of closed ways to play things in e4. If it plays 1...e5 we can go with 2. Bc4, maybe getting it out of it's book earlier, which is solid. Or if it plays 1..c5 played The Closed Sicilian! Anything else should be ok, and shouldn't get too crazy if we don't want it to!

Ok, In that case.

I would suggest my pet opening f4, but the collective knowledge among RHP'ers on this system is probably quite a bit lower than the others, not to mention exposing our King so early, is probably just asking for Fritz to hurt us.

c3, I like that idea, just because it is something I've been thinking about giving a try for awhile and would like the opportunity to read the thought process of some of the better players on the site.
