Let me fill in the spaces in your idea:

12. Bh5 Qf6 (I think that 12. ... Bh3 transposes into the main line) 13. Nbxd6 cxd6 14. Nxd6 Nge7 (14. ... g6?! seems to be weak after 15. Bf3) 15. Nxf7+ Kc7 16. Nxh8 Bh3 17. Re1 Rxh8 18. Qf3!?

with an unclear position; IMHO may be white is standin ...[text shortened]... P.S.: it is obvious that 12. ... g6 is a blunder. 13. Nxc7 and white has decisive advantage.

Why is Bh5 needed first? Can Nbxd6 be played now?

12. Nbxd6 cxd6 13. Nxd6 seems to win the queen.

Nope...
After 13. Nxd6 black can play 13. ... Ke7 or 13. ... Kc7.
The last option can be followed by 14. Nxf7 Q moves 15. Nxh8.
And 13. ... Ke7 seems to be a much better option for black, as it protects f7.

Cheers

Edit:
I apologize if my posts sound a little "dry" or even rude. English isn't my mother tongue, as you already can guessed by now.

No worries, your post didn't sound rude at all. I was forgetting about the bishop, and thought 14. Nf5 was playable. I should probably be getting some sleep right now rather than playing chess.

Yes, thats how it would go, the knight does fall. I still quite like the variation since the rooks on the open files will get better play against a single rook, also im not quite sure what to do with the knights. However the prospect of Fritz having two pieces for a rook and pawn isnt all to appealing either.

I guess the alternative id pick is Qd3, the queen has to come off the back rank sooner or later. I would have much prefered it on d2, but since that isnt an option anymore d3 is viable.

Re1 now might not be to bad, or Bf3 since we are probably going to be hit by Bh3.

Good stuff. I guess the question is do we play safe or take a chance? I don't know anything about Fritz but the first line looks like fun until we get our eye poked out. Re1 looks safe.

It's a wide open game, weakening the Knights' value. I go for the combination.
