I already stated a preference for the Scotch so 3 d4. The Ruy is just toooooooo booked and dull and if bwe play Bc4 we're liable to get the Two Knights which is veryyy tactical. Kasparov made some improvements in some of the Scotch variations and it can played positional or tactical as the need arises. A vote for 3 d4.
3. Bb5 (x2)
The Ruy is very solid and has solid elements of both the positional and the tactical. It's basic style is for White to maintain a tension on Black, which might help keep Fritz's idiot savant tactical genius from kicking in too too much. We know what it's going to target - our center - which lessens the complexities that the computer can throw at us.

Id go with Bc4 (personal preference). Im not really bothered with opening we play even if I like some more than others. Once the game reachs the variation phases, the opening wont matter only our own analysis.
If it came down to it I would pick the Scotch over the Spanish :-)
Where would you put the queen?
