I already stated a preference for the Scotch so 3 d4. The Ruy is just toooooooo booked and dull and if bwe play Bc4 we're liable to get the Two Knights which is veryyy tactical. Kasparov made some improvements in some of the Scotch variations and it can played positional or tactical as the need arises. A vote for 3 d4.

3.Bc4 we don't need to fear tactics, and besides, there's always the possibility to go for a more quiet, positional approach, even if the 2 knights is played.

3. Bb5 (x2)

The Ruy is very solid and has solid elements of both the positional and the tactical. It's basic style is for White to maintain a tension on Black, which might help keep Fritz's idiot savant tactical genius from kicking in too too much. We know what it's going to target - our center - which lessens the complexities that the computer can throw at us.

I do not like the Scotch. I really do not like to play the Ray Lopez, but I hate the Scotch. I also do not like The Two Knights Defence. P.S. this is a discussion and not a put down of any opening.

Id go with Bc4 (personal preference). Im not really bothered with opening we play even if I like some more than others. Once the game reachs the variation phases, the opening wont matter only our own analysis.

If it came down to it I would pick the Scotch over the Spanish :-)

Where would you put the queen?

I like the Ruy 😉.

The Scotch looks good too, but I don't know it. Seems pretty intuitively clear though.

I'd like to play Bb5.

It gives u a good chance to have a very nice centre pawn structure. Plus, I'm trying to figure this opening out at the moment and I've messed it up a few times, so I'd like to see it done properly.

3. Bc4 only if we play the Evans. No use playing slow boring chess. Otherwise 3. d4 for the Scotch Gambit with 4. Bc4.

a3, simply to lure him out in the open,
it would be like we had black, but he needs to start calculating. (not really a point in this if he gets like more than an hour per move so if that's the case I go for Bb5)
