Hi Korch,
Say hello to Neil Berry for me, we are very good friends.
Tell him to bring me a game for the Corner he will faint
when you mention my name so far from home.
Good luck v Strade
Unfortunately yesterday (in 5th round) Neil Berry had his first loss against Latvian veteran GM Janis Klovans. At the moment he has 1/2 point more than I have( +1 -1 =3). In 6th round he will have black against decent opponent - Lithuanian FM Povilas Lasinskas (who have the same number of points as I have).
Silman (I am not a fan of Silman BTW) ,states on his website, while reviewing a chess book on the c3 Sicilian, authored by Joe Gallagher , everyman chess.
'I have been working on 2.c3 lines with GM Tal Shaked for some years now, and with the fairly recent solution of certain positions, I strongly believe that White's play is at a dead end in the two main lines. As Gallagher himself delineates, 2...Nf6 is now giving Black effortless, often sterile, equality (or more than equality, in those complex lines where White tries to keep the play alive). White's many new ideas over the last ten years, which revived 2.c3 in international play, are petering out or being refuted. Thus, instead of the assessments like "equal but unclear" or "with compensation for the pawn(s)" which characterize much of modern theory, the 2...Nf6 lines are consistently leading to prospectless play (at best) from White's point of view. To make matters worse, 2...d5 has never been in better shape, especially in the ...Nf6 and ...Bg4 variations. Again, a careful reading of Gallagher's book confirms that White is having a hard time making it even interesting. And he is too honest to suggest otherwise. But if this is true, one wonders if 2.c3 is worth writing a large book about, at least until someone finds new ways to bolster White's cause. In fact, just about every other anti-Sicilian system is more popular among top players at present.', interesting tis it not.
I myself no absolutely no theory on this venerable opening but 2.Nf6 or 2.d5 or even 2.e6 do seem quite promising from Blacks point of view, poor girl though, probably wondered what had hit her!
There's nothing worse than having a lost position after eight moves (except, of course, having one after seven, six, five, four, three, two or one move).
What should you do? Try and survive to move 25 so it doesn't get classified as a miniature? Maybe the best thing to do is resign quickly and hope that as few people as possible notice you slinking out of the tournament room after ten minutes. That's what Andrew Whiteley decided to do when he bungled the White side of a Budapest against my friend Andy Dunn:

Originally posted by KorchShe would have more of a chance against me cause I wouldnt play c3 sicillian, I would take her on in a proper game (unless it was one of those annoying sicillians that I dont know so well like the kan or kalashnikov - then I might be tempted with a maroxy bind)
That girl yesterday defeated decent master candidate with 2000+ ELO. So I`m pretty sure that she is able to defeat you.
In 7th round I had 82 move long game against GM Viesturs Meijers (ELO 2496). In opening (English) I (as black) did equalise easily, queens were exchanged fast and game finally came into complicated endgame which after 40th move was dead draw. Then Meijers started torture playing this draw endgamer till the end and his stamina was better - he got me.
My fingers refuse to type this long boredom. If I could ban something in chess then it would be this "stamina play" (from which I did suffer also in 3rd round).
P.S. After that game my opponent did withdraw from tournament!!!
