Had a game with someone with no morals.
Started out 1200, and was 1400, but really was 1600+
They even admited they were too busy to make moves, or some lame excuse, and timed out a lot of games.
My point was, why should someone lose points to a sandbagger, who wont play at a "honest" rating

Jerks. They should introduce a rating floor on here.

There are some people who do this in OTB to get some extra cash. That's even more annoying since there is money involved and OTB is more prestigous. (mind the spelling though, I don't use that word often and as such the spelling must be way off)

Sandbaggers were one of the main reasons I gave up OTB events. The Class sections, especially in the big money events, were overrun by the vermin(yes, I said vermin!) 😠

They at least have rating floor in place for OTB to prevent massive rating droppings but still it doesn't stop someone from losing like 200 points and playing in a lower section.

Last I hear there were at , 1200, 1400??,1800, 2200 or something like that depending on which chess organization you play for.

i guess once you sign up for this site, everyone must sign on daily else be considered a jerk? Many people are here for fun, and don't have this as their only thing in life. if the person was lowering their rating on purpose, as well as entering lower banded tournaments then they would be a jerk.. but just to have their rating lowered because they were busy in 'real life' doesn't mean that they are jerks. Who decides what is a lame excuse or a valid excuse when someones life events take precedent?
edit: We all have the option of not playing someone, or resigning the game prior to making a few moves if we feel that we are playing someone that has a much lower skill rating over their true skill rating. I did that in a tournament myself so as not to lose lots of points. 'course.. if clan related game.. then it might not be an agreed upon method from the point of view of your clan leader.

I'm calling sandbaggers jerks. My definition of sandbaggers comes from OTB play and the requirements for a sandbagger are very specific and hence the case you are talking about would not qualify in my books as sandbagging.

I'm sure you know what kind of people I am refering to as jerks.

Its one thing to play for fun, its another to have no concern, or value, concerning a "real" rating.
This person timed out a bunch of games, went down to 1200, and for some reason my clan leader allowed him to play me. We finished the games when he was 1400. and i lost more points, because this "person" ( i use losely) wasnt playing at a true rating. My opponent had a 1800+ rating at some point. He even told me he was too "busy" and timed out some games...🙄
I like to play for fun, but not at some other person's expense.
This kind of activity is just a reflection of a person morals, and ethical level. Of which there was none to be observed here.😕

Grandmouster is talking about me. Yes I timed out in games and went way down. But what am I supposed to do in this situation? Only play people rated wayyyy lower than what I should be playing? That is real sandbagging. I'm playing 1600's and 1700's because that's my level of play, am I supposed to take advantage of lower rated players because I wasn't here for a bit and timedout in some games? And I don't like being publicly accused of being a cheat, I think most of you can agree that I'm not an engine user as I'm familiar with several people in this thread.

Another point, if I were sandbagging, I could have entered tournament for lower rated players, which I obviously didn't, the only one I entered was the 1600-1699 tourney. I hate sandbagging as much as everyone else, and don't appretiate being called one myself when I'm not trying to take advantage of everyone.

My highest rating every is 1780 something, but am normally not that high, usually around 1650 or so. Not much different from your level, so I am playing at my real level when I'm playing you.

GalaxyShield is not a sandbagger, IMO.

Sometimes a person must take care of things more important than chess. A rating floor would help protect everyone, including the established player who must take time off. Implementation of true vacations would help too.

Several other sites implement rating floors.

The USCF OTB ratings have floors of 100, 1400, 1500, etc. Until a player gets to 1600, the floor is 100. After that, it is 200 below the highest rating rounded down to the nearest hundred. I'm not aware whether FIDE or other nations have rating floors, however.

What are you talking about me not playing at an honest rating? I'm trying to set myself up for people at my level, me not playing at an honest level would be 1400 and below. I don't see what your problem is as far as people not being able to play and losing some games. They're just rating points, I've lost to plenty of people rated way the heck lower then me and I never accused them of sandbagging. Losing happens, big deal. I don't believe you were complaining when you beat me in the other game, I guess I'm not a sandbagger when you win eh?

I noticed your drop as well (as we have two games on the go)... I just dragged my games out with you .. but.. then again.. my rating dropped too (though not as low as yours)..
so., if you were wondering why I was so slow on your games and not others, its because I was waiting for your rating to go back up 😉

ok, so if i lost a few hundred points, then played you, and you lost, no problems? huh?
You know, becuase i was "too busy" too make move's 🙄
So i have to take 2x the loss of points. because you think your still 1600+?
Play at your rating, so other people dont have to lose points to a sandbagger like you.
Maybe ill do that, waste a few hundred points, and maybe some day will be matched up....😏 And youll lose a few more points, then was "Honestly" deserved 😀

Go ahead, I lose to people rated lower than me all the time so I lose a lot of points. Isn't the point of sandbagging to play lower rated people? And not people at my skill level? Is it fair to the lower rated people to take their points when I'm actually better then they are? I know where you're coming from of course, I wouldn't want to lose points to someone who's trying to get their rating back, but I won't complain about it cause if you're a good enough player you should be able to get your rating back with ease. Once I get back to my real level, and would like some points back, I'd be more than happy to give them back to you. It's up to you.
