1. RHP is an amazing site and is a great way to play chess against players from all parts of the world and with many rating levels. I dont prefere againt playing against computer players, but come on, what can you do anymore, its a learning experience, and ive played many games at one time against players all in the top 40 here on RHP, so trust me, if players were using engines, well you probably all got a ton of points against me.
2. You know what i find funny! I beat a 1970 rated player a couple weeks ago, i was so impressed with myself, and so happy, even though he beat me in the other 5 other games lol, but he actually had the nerve to message Trackhead to accuse me of being an engine, first of all, hard to be an engine when i play atleast 400-900 games at one time. The rate and speed at which i move, no. 2 on the MAP is over 11,000 moves behind me and for half this month i barely moved, including the past few days where i have been focusing on clan games (which on a side note won 12 challenges) So accusing means nothing anymore, you have to come up with proof!
3.Trackhead has very good grounds for what he has done and i will not kick him out of my clan, (admiting he resigned some of our clan games) I cant do that to any player without proper grounds, and really, why judge him? why are you judging him? Boris, your a great leader, i mean come on, you have such an amazing clan, which i love the fact that we have many clan games together and i hope someday to get my clan there, but your judging the guy to fast, he let his gf make some moves, and you totally flip out and disect the guy, thats grade 2 stuff people! Your all better then this, and making little comments here and there doenst help! You got mad because he couldnt produce credentials for his rating to be so high!! I admit, i would love to see it, but hey, ask all the top 20 here on RHP, actually the top 40, and maybe 20 actually have some sort of national or club rating.
4. Trackhead only ment to do good, not to corrupt the system, he just doesnt want to lose to a computer, im sure when Kasparov lost to Deep Blue and was furious, and i mean furious, at his level, you would expect nothing more then him to be calm and respectable, but come on, when your good you have your own principles for which you follow and when a computer beats you, then it isnt you, i think computer players are good to have, but you have to admit it to the public, have a sign by your name, people have to know, then its okay, you can even have a rating chart for the best computer players, its okay, i dont mind that!!!
5. Anyways, i guess my general point is, truth is great, chess is great, beating your opponent is great, knowing you beat a computer is great, but lossing to someone who is using a computer and you have no idea, how you blundered so badly against a 1600 rated player, when you 1900+ well it kinda must make you evaluate like crazy, could be a good thing, but then on the other hand, all this time and effort is being put in to a move that when you play a human wont be played, unless you expect to play computers, its a positive, but if your playing only humans, or expect to play only humans, its annoying!!!!
I dont know, i hope that sheds some light and helps, and i didnt mean to single you out Boris, Like i said i think your a great leader, and im very impressed, but you also are irrational at times.
Regards,
Dustin Rogers
Since my last post, I am now no.2 seed.. I have just been murdered twice on uchess by xxfearusa1 , and I think I might retire from there now...
This was my last game against xxfear on 5-0 time limit (5 minutes and 0 increment) :-

I found the move g5 positively shocking..... Also the fact that bxb1 was not played immediately but instead Be4 a bit strange.
Oh well, ce la vie....

This is a laughable statement.
Trackhead resigned clan games and for every clan leader that's enough for kicking him out.
You and your engine chewing friend are making ratings just a fluke with your periodically massive resignations:I don't hate you,I hate this way of managing games.
okay, well am i resigning or lossing any games now!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!?!?
Or am I overloading myself with games?!?!?!?!!!?!??!!?!?!?!?!?
How come your clan leader Boris compliments me on my rating and supports me, but you can still, "hate the way i manage my games"
My rating is almost 1800 and climbing, and the lower my game load gets only the better its going to get, and you know what, i said alot of good things about your leader, and not a negative thing, in actuality, last time i check compliments can go along way, but your name, TRAITOR AND LIAR! Go along way!

not to worry ive been staying away from clan matches. Anyone can feel free to kick me anyway would only be their loss. And people resign their matches all the time so nothing wrong with it.

lmao, thats funny, but actually according to my email from chrismo engine use is forbidden in the tos. Personally I never read the thing so I don't know what it really says about engine use. Anyway I cant believe this thread is still going but heres what I had to say. well I just took care of my problem. I resigned my matches against human players that ...[text shortened]... s and help my clans move up by winning my clan matches but other than that I don't really care.

For an engine, you sure have some kick-ass natural language programming to talk like that! 😉
I must say I am a little disapointed with Trackheads actions. I was enjoying 2 games with him (which I feel I was doing ok for a "human"😉 and he resigned them to "boost" my points, and lower his. I would have much rather lost a good game than win in such a hollow way, and for such a stupid reason.
Trackhead, The games we were playing were nice games, and you said yourself that I at least appeared to play like a human, surely they are the ones you should continue to play, and dump the games you feel are against "robots"
Hello all-
I'm happy to see an open and mature discussion of such an important issue. I am very interested in computer play...here's who I am and my perspective:
I am an xx (let's just say middle-aged) year old computer engineer/programmer, and have been playing chess since I was 10. I am rated USCF 1980, last tournament was 25 years ago. I consider myself a relative expert in chess theory, programming, and engine development. (If interested, my current program - Alderon is currently available for blitz games on the ICC, and performs at around 2100...PS just et me know if you're interested and I send a compiled version and/or source code to you). I often use a chess engine, but am currently losing several games to RHP players in the p1200 - 1600 level. No problem. The quality of the games is great!
The man/computer concept of Advanced Chess (invented and strongly promoted by Kasparov) ties in very nicely with chess game servers that are becoming popular on the Internet. Most online games cannot be monitored for fairness. It is clear that a large number of players surreptitiously consult databases and chess playing computers during their games.
The answer to the dilemma is to legalize the use of computers – at least in most or certain tournaments, but perhaps not when involving money. The Internet is the perfect site for an Advanced Chess tournament circuit, in which anyone can participate. For the first time even the weakest of players can enter a tournament without fear of disgrace. At worst they will simply follow the computer on every move. As you well know, chess engines return many strong moves; often the top 10 are microscopically close in strength. Serious analysis is hard work, and determining the "actual" strongest move is hardly easy. In almost all positions, multiple lines have to be played through and a rational conclusion reached concerning their soundness and winning chance. Naturally, a stronger player with the same hardware who actually uses it constructively, and analyzes effectively, (as described above) will be superior, but the games against the novice will still be very exciting and of a very high quality.
A strong grandmaster who understands how to use the computer well will dominate the opposition and win most of the tournaments he enters. But it will quite meaningful for amateurs to play against him, and they will actually win occasional games. Most importantly the amateur will sense the spirit of competition and learn a tremendous amount in the process.
Besides, it is a hugely daunting task indeed for an ICS to police every player. Of course it can be done: - set most any engine to 'annotate' mode, load the pgn file, and the system will flag any suspicious moves, normally anything over a 'blunder factor' of 0.50th of a pawn.
The following stats were collected from a random sampling (50 games) from played by opponents with ELO average of 2000 or greater. A move was marked bad by the chess engines (in this case Chess Assistant and Shredder 7.04) if it deviated from the engines determination of best move by 0.50 pawns. Over 90% of the games contained multiple mistakes that significantly affected the evaluation of the game. Thus even at the 2000 level, almost all games (9 out of 10) contain moves that were flagged as 'bad' by the engines.
In addition, I have done a random sampling and analysis of about 30 games here at RHP, and very many were found that would indicate very high-level engine/database assistance.
Thus, let players consult databases/engines/books, whatever, let them do it openly! Let the computers play freely! Don't force them to hide in the shadows! People should be honest (with no shame) and list it in their profile. Then the opponent can feel free to counter if they so desire, with an engine of his/her own.
They are here amongst us, whether we like it or not. They only make everyone better (a tremendous way to learn, spending hours analyzing positions with a powerful engine). It raises the level of the game, the quality of play, and the theoretical soundness for all to enjoy.
Sincerely,
Kranium
I would just like to say that I truely enjoy the game of chess!!! while new to the game & I get my head handed to me most of the time I do not mind because I'm learning the game. It blows me a way(not really that surprised) that people cheat to increase their ratings. I think the fun is to win by using your own brain & progressing in the game. I think some of the people that use this site have way too much time on their hands. one person who challenged me to a game had over 100 games going at the same time!!! and every person that person was playing had a lower rating than their own(hhhmmm??) I'm like thinking play someone your own size. I do believe to get better you have to play people equal to or better than yourself. well anyway it should be about the game of chess & if you cheat you are only really cheating yourself!!! Peace out.
