Hello all, I've been wondering lately how Spike 1.2 would play under correspondence chess time limits. I've also been wondering why there aren't any chess variations in correspondence chess. And since the greatest chess variation is fischer random, I chose Spike 1.2 Turin to be our opponent for this RHP vs. engine battle.
Spike 1.2 regularly beats today's top players, inculding GM Peter Svilder at the 2006 Mainz FRC Championships.
Bobby Fischer created Fischer random chess "in which chess creativity and talent would be more important than memorization and analysis of opening moves." For more information and the rules of play, see "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fischer_random_chess".
The Rules:
1. Spike 1.2 Turin will have 10 minutes of thinking time for each move.
2. Spike 1.2 Turin will not use tablebases or books, and will be run at default settings.
3. A random opening position has been chosen, out of 960 possible positions. FYI, the position is no. 42, although do not need this information as an FEN will be given after each move.
4. RedHotPawn is allowed a maximum of 5 days thinking time. At day 4 a warning will be given, and at day 5, at 7:30 PM, RedHotPawn will forfeit the game. However, Spike 1.2 may move at his operator's discretion. (I have been very busy lately and may not move for a while at certain periods.)
5. Spike 1.2 Turin will play white
6. The rules given at "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fischer_random_chess" will be the rules that govern play.
7. Move voting will be preformed on an "in thread basis"- no PM's about move votes, please.
Spike 1.2 Turin has moved:
Good Luck!

Why do I suck at Chess Xanthos? I try to read Chess books, but, get easily distracted by internet porn. How can I couple my love of porn with a Chess tutorial?
So sayeth the shepherd.

1. & 2. Who's to check these, you're both challenger and arbiter
3. again, how was the random position chosen
still given that you are playing honestly
4. rhp has an enforeable time control, but Spike doesn't? hardly fair, and what is the mechanism for choosing rhp's move, who makes the decision
5. why, did he chose the hand with the white pawn?
6.wikipedia as the source of the rules? that can be changed by anyone at anytime?
ok 1... c5 would be my reply, but again who's to decide that the challenge is accepted or what the move will be?:

Also for future reference the correct response to 'so sayeth the shepherd' is 'so sayeth the flock'. You should watch Porky's 2 again.

I have nothing to gain or lose by unfair play.
Spike has a time control, 10 minutes.
Spike has chosen white because i wanted to get this game started right away. Who knew how long RedHotPawn would take to make the first move as white?
As for the wikipedia remark, If you find another suitable source we can use that, I dont really care.
Originally posted by LanndonKaneI vote we offer the draw. Failing that, let's accuse Spike of beaming bad thoughts directly into our brains, turn over the table, and storm out.
