I think David Bronstein is known for his highly original play, although I've only played through one of his games. It was pretty incredible though... It was featured in that Sicilian Najdorf DVD Kasparov did for Chessbase (I've heard that Kaspaov is a big fan of Bronstein). Anyways, Bronstein reached a position something like 10 moves into play, thought about the position for an HOUR, and then sacrificed a piece for 3 passed pawns (a, b, and c). I was blown away, I would have never thought of that, and I'm sure many grandmasters would have missed it too. Needless to say Bronstein won...
