Pawn on e5 is extra pawn which black don`t need to defend letting white to waste tempo taking it. Knight on e4 will have no problems moving to f6 where it will be safe.
The main line given in MCO-15 is: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 Nf6 4. d4 Nxe4 5. d5 Nb8 6. Bd3 Nc5 7. Nxe5 Nxd3+ 8. Nxd3
when Black has the choice of d6 or Be7. Assess this position, please.

2) After 6...Nc5 7. Nxe5 Nxd3+ 8. Nxd3 d6 9.0-0 Be7 10.Qf3 0-0 (book line) position seems to be equal.

2) MCO does evaluate the position as approximately equal but White seems better developed, has more space and there don't seem to be good squares for Black's bishops yet. Of course, there's no crushing win for White, but he looks a bit better to me. Why do you think the position is equal?

2) Black 2 bishops (which may expand in future as position does not seem so deadly closed) and absence of any weakness.
Originally posted by KorchOK, but I still prefer White. It seems he can whip up a Kingside attack rather quickly with Be3, Nd2, Qg3, etc. etc. etc. Of course, Black gets to move too but he looks to be on the defensive for the immediate future.

EDIT: Sorry, I guess Qg3 isn't viable yet. Perhaps Qh5.
Originally posted by no1marauderIt`s the matter of taste. Also I prefer some opening systems which I like to play but which gives opponent a chance to reach equality (1.e4 c5 2.c3 Nf6 3.e5 Nd5 4.g3 for example).

Edit: After 11.Be3 Nd7 12.Nd2 Ne5 black should be more than ok as after 13.Nxe5 dxe5 it will be black who may try to advance kingside.
