i like that idea! simple and good, but i'd make it first to win 3 games, like a tennis grand slam! and i see murray is struggling to win again 🙂

Yes,in an ideal world. But in the real world you will not find anyone willing to organise such a match.

That can happen only when all current World Champions dies - Botvinnik became a WC after such tournament.

On topic - Gelfand has my sympathy, he outplayed himself.
I never really liked Anand. He plays quickly and is obivously naturally talented, but I always had a feeling with his games that they are, I don´t know, "artificial" in some sense.

Chess is a bitch.

I suppose those who are proposing a "first to X wins, draws don't count" duel don't remember the first Kasparov vs Karpov match. THAT was boring. And it had two insanely talented players going at it, so you can only blame the rules.

20+ classic games, WCh wins if match is equal. Means one player in every moment is behind, and he is in must win situation. As we saw in this match, the games were boring especially when players were both happy with current match situation.
In this way, we will also probably see longer games (you can see in the last rapid game, Boris played it out even if it was obvious draw earlier...), as you cannot afford to give easy game to your opponent while you are behind in score.

still, why there was no such an article written about previous match for WCh title...or about previous to previous...?

Why chess players like Levon Aronian, Susan Polgar, Natalie Pogonina and others disagree with you, if the match was so boring?

Speaking on "there is no smoke without fire" ... Thread 76446 😵

And Kasparov and other GMs(I forgot their names, they were commenting during the match, it was even some article on chessbase regarding how to save chess) agree with me...

GM`s who made online comments on Chessbomb did not seem bored at all.

How comes that such a boring match "generated considerable interest from chess fans and the media." ?

"On some days, the auditorium’s 400 seats were unable to accommodate all the people who wanted to watch the game. "

"The official tournament website received some two million unique visitors during the tournament and more than six million hits. A video broadcast of the match, which was not only available on the official website but also on other Internet resources, was viewed by approximately three million people. An average of 200,000 users watched each game online using the video broadcast. The most entertaining game came on the final day of the match, when an all-time high of more than 50,000 simultaneous connections to the server were registered."

All I can say about that is that, if Danailov supports a certain format, it must be ipso facto bad.

Thumbs up from me! I liked the 24 game format, WC keeps title with a draw.
