In a game my opponent has timed out but is only one move from checkmate. i have decided to let him win the game because i would actually feel bad about clicking the skull...
What would any one else do...reasons for and against clicking the skull
If in doubt check out their skulling habits.
I learned very quickly that opponents want the win.
I waited once, let my opponent come back and make a move after the skull appeared, and due to work committments my timebank depleted and my opponent was able to skull me. THEY DID
Now I skull without mercy.
Originally posted by adramforallWhat if you did that and they had no history of skulling or being skulled before. Then you don't know if they would skull or not. Also, you need to look at their history with time controls. If you're playing with a timebank, it's unacceptable to not make a move within that time. I may have said this before, but I'd skull regardless of the time controls because they should be able to make that last move within at least 24 hours. If they can't, they should have posted that vacation symbol or something. π²

Originally posted by 93confirmedNo, I wouldn't wait for him to checkmate me, I would resign. I know time is a very important factor in the game, learning to manage your time is just as important as learning an opening for example, so I don't judge anyone who claims a win on time. However, I personally would never claim a win on time in a losing position, regardless of the prize at stake or my relationship/history with the opponent.
If you were playing OTB, would you wait for your opponent to checkmate you even after his time has expired and then allow him to report the win to the TD? Click the skull, click the skull, click the skull...
I'm seriously surprised that most people here jump at the opportunity to skull their opponents. When people do this, it tells me that they care more about some artificial rating than about the game of chess. What's the fun in an undeserved win? What do you learn? If your opponent refuses to move for a long time, then you should "skull" him. However, if he's just a little late, I think the loss is really yours.
