I think, as an adult learning to play tournament chess, that my experience, guile, and accumulated "chess wisdom" allow me to compensate for what age has taken away, but I can still tell.
Even beyond the physical elements, at 42 I can almost guarantee that Anand has more distractions and other elements in his life that have to weigh down on him. Family responsibilities alone tend to increase with age.
Of course, I am generalizing a great deal, but age is definitely a factor- and if I can get Karpov to answer my emails, I'm sure he'll back me up!

I've got to agree with you rook! Topalov's kind of a sketchy character but I love his play, he's without a doubt the most exciting player on tour right now, and has been for a while. I feel like him winning San Luis 2005 wasn't a "real" WCC victory, so I'd like to see him win in 2012... in match play. He's getting older (36 now?), so if he fails to win in 2012 his name will probably start popping up in those "Strongest Player to Never Win the WCC" topics... 🙁
