favorite tactic is the classic sacrifice on h7 (of the bishop)...aka the greek gift
also good is the windmill but it is rare- don't want to explain it too much but it's basically a rook moving along opponents 7th rank to give discovered check by queen/bishop. The rook captures a piece on the 7th rank and then moves back to force the same type of position and repeat the process...you can clear the whole 7th rank.

whats your favorite chess tactic? forks skewers pins or double threat? stalling games is not a tactic its just cheap. my favorite is the double threat so many times has a 1700 player pulled off a double threat on me forcing mate or a loss of matieral. But now that i finally understand how to do it i find it a very fun tactic to use

I don't care much for sacs, (I generally don't like the 'risk' involved) and so, I actually prefer just to play slowly, close the position then squeeze the life out of them, let them do the sacs!
Of course if chess were that simple ^^ i'd win every game.

[Round ...[text shortened]... ou have it, my favorite tactic is a very slow and sluggish onslaught.

I refer to the slightly more duboius sac which lead to non-forced sequences, which can certainly be full of risk.
Originally posted by ShinidokiI think if the move has an illussion of giving away material then it is called a sac. Even if it lures the queen into a fork that wins the queen it is called a sac, becuase it has the illussion of being so. Although I'm sure you could call it a dubious sac!
