Originally posted by cmsMasterI've played it and I don't think so at all. The Dragon is very straightforward to play as it invariably involves queenside play, but it requires great care on the kingside so you don't get mated. Still, the Accelerated Dragon is easier to play if you are OK with the bind. And no, it is not harder than the Najdorf by any measure. The Najdorf involves much more complex play with many more possible plans for both sides as well as many different pawn structures. But this is not necessarily a good thing.
Nothing is harder to play than the dragon. Not even the Najdorf IMO.
Beginners should try the Taimanov.
EDIT, actually, maybe the Svesh is harder to play.
I hate giving this away. I like to get a checkmate midgame, or beg of end game if I can. I castle early, check opponent's strategy, then advance knights and bishops toward king, taking other pieces as I go along. I like to have my rooks at the end, Queen is a bonus. When I am playing someone better than myself, trouble usually happens when I am down in material from an attack I didn't see.
I know that black is usually a more reactive role to white. I've been trying to work Ruy Lopez as white, but advanced players know all the lines. I've switched mostly to Italian / G.P. and Queen's Gambit.
I usually have to resign around move 55 or 60.
I'd like to use Sicillian and a better opening for white as well. Do I need to memorize the 1st 20 moves with variations (like a dance) to make these openings work?

i don't see why people say studying an opening is pointless at 1300. or lower. i have taken 3 people from rhp and i have boosted their rating by 200 pts each by helping them on the opening. i took a guy who was struggling at the 1200-1300 level helped him with the opening and he hit 1500 within a month and a half. i think once they have the basics of tactics then they can learn openings but i still suggest that people under 1500 shouldn't try the sicilian. learning how to use pawn breaks in games with e4 and d4 help prepare them for the sicilian in my opinion.
