Originally posted by DfthdI could not disagree with you more, I have played against many excellent opponents on yahoo and at times been badly beaten by excellent opening play there. Obviously if you play lowly ranked players the standard will be lower (except when you happen accross a good player playing an experimental opening line and using a different profile for that reason). Although what I would say about yahoo is that I have experienced extreme rudeness from opponents (at times).
The reason some people get irritated is because we actually want to LEARN something. Once a player knows how to refute a certain trap he doesn't need to learn it again. If you play in s***holes like yahoo instead of places like ICC or FICS y ...[text shortened]... ous openings instead of the same stupid traps over and over again.
Originally posted by viryeahYes it is opening theory, but bringing the queen out early in this case isn't a mistake because white made the first mistake by taking the e5 pawn. Everyone who plays the Ruy should know that the e5 pawn is the forbidden fruit untill white is castled.
1. e4, e5; 2. Nf3, Nc6; 3. Bb5, a6; 4. Bxc6, dxc6; 5. Nxe5, Qd4!; 6 Ng4, Qxe4+; 7. Ne3, ...
This is opening theory!
have had scholar's mate tried on me when i first joinrd the site a few times - i thought at the time it was disrespectful and tended to keep my queen at home.
however, if there is a chance to play i use - recently palyed q gambit then someone tried to fianchotted there bishop so i though i would have a free shot at the rook thank you very much. another player got into a messwith their b pawn and bishop so once again out it came - just paly each match on its merots and see if an advantage may be forthcoming.
i have also checked some players opening positions (if i have time and can be bothered) before I move and may play the scandianvian if they regularly use an e pawn opening
Originally posted by cantspellYes this is what I meant. There's nothing wrong with moving your queen out early provided there's a real purpose to it and not some senseless and easily refuted threat.

Don't really understand the scandinavian though=p Perhaps someone would like to tell me how it works if black takes back the pawn with his queen.
