The only problem with using that expression on a chessplayer is that he might run right out and try to purchase a book written by Bent Larsen. 😉

...which will be no bad thing.

Larsen's Selected Games is a very good and honest book.

Going back to the draw offers, tell what you think of this game.

Game 5105592 (I really need to work on my midgame)

I offered him a draw after the 43rd move. He declined, which is cool, it would be fun to play it out anyway.

But then he offers me a draw after the 53rd move. Um....?? are you serious?

*Edit* had to edit the game number

When playing someone new to you , and you make a move that is a crusher, ask your opponent:

"Have you ever played chess before"?

If over the board, try to sound sincere and be casual about it. Their reaction can be priceless, especially if they're a n00B that thought they were really good.

It is worth noting that unless the draw is forced / part of the rules (i.e. stalemate), not only is one not obliged to accept or offer comment, but it is quite rude of the offering player to expect one and cast judgement on the absence of one.

It is entirely up to each player whether they accept a draw. Full stop. If you don't want a draw, play on. Simple as.
