Off the top of my head:

Tottenham Hotspur
Aston Villa
Crystal Palace
West Bromwich Albion
Charlton Athletic
Stockport County
Nottingham Forest
Plymouth Argyle
Rushden & Diamonds
Queens Park Rangers
Sheffield Wednesday
West Ham United (third word as united?! - does that count? 😉)

plus Crewe Alexandra, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, as mentioned above. Not quite 17, alas.

Without wishing to hijack the thread, Arsenal is an interesting one: Am I right in thinking that it is the only club in the football league whose name doesn't contain any geographic reference to the club's location?

I remember this question being posed and running as a secondary theme through an episode of "The Detectives" some moons ago!
