Rook vs 5 pawns?

Is it possible for black to win, assuming perfect play on each side?

(I do not know, this was a blitz game. I lost - I had only 3 total minutes left.)

It's not looking too good for black. I've seen games where three pawns win against a rook. Four is pushing it , but 5!? It would be tough, but the only way I can think of that you would easily attain the answer is to put it into a program.

black or white's move?

don't think it matters. rook is cooked. Kg3

if black moves first, with perfect play, I see a draw by insufficient material. If white moves first, black looses.

Only if they're far enough advanced. They need the king's protection until they reach the sixth rank, and even the king probably isn't enough if you back them up a couple more ranks.

i was thinking this too, but i think white can avoid letting black maintain the opposition.
