Using only two 2's and any combination of mathematical signs, symbols and functions can you make 5?

a = 2/2
5 = a+a+a+a+a

The correct solution will use no other digits other than two 2s. You may use any mathematical symbols, which do not include any algebraic variables. This is not a trick question.

I must be more precise. 🙂

Use only two 2s as well as mathematical symbols and modifiers. No lettered-quantites are required.

2 + 2 + |{ {} }|

That is, 4 plus the size of the set whose single member is the empty set.

Looks valid. There is at least one more solution.

Do the axiomatic set theory thing:

5 = (2^2)'

Not the particular solution that I had in mind, but I'll accept your solution! 🙂

The problem wit this solution is that the digit 2 appears four times.
