Click "Greeters" link
You will see a new window with a list of greeters and at the upper left there should be an "edit" link for yourself.
You can edit your message and number of games.
Be sure to click update when you're done.
well i set up for 2 greets, and 1 moved a few times and then stopped, and also in other games.
The other has already finished some other games and said they liked the site.
Neither replied to messages I sent at first - maybe they thought it was a bit odd.
Do they know that the greeter games have been setup to let them play established people who can answer questions etc?
Originally posted by delnzI suspect they don't know anything. Start with that assumption, since they're new.

On my first move I include a message encouraging them to look around and click the various links, check out the FAQ, and drop down to the bottom of the page and click the site map link. I also tell them to feel free to ask questions.
So far after three games, I'm not very impressed with my results with the newbies.
First game completed with almost zero communication, second scratched, and third appears to be abandoned as well after one move.
Originally posted by SilverstrikerI hadn't either, not until four of five days ago and now I've had nine or ten...wellllllll, most haven't moved, I think they've signed up and then decided not to play. I have four keen players though, but not a dickybird with regard to in -game messages though...I'm wondering if the default setting is 'in-game messages hidden', because one of these chaps must see something I've written lol...
not had a single bite
I'm also wondering if we should delete games that haven't started, maybe after a week or so...
Originally posted by RevRSleekerI'm pretty sure they see our in-game messages because in my first greeter game I finally got one response to my various attempts to communicate. My opponent told me where he lived, so he had to see my question. But that was it.

I also tried to tell him/her how to use private messages and then sent him one. I sent another when the game was completed, but by reviewing my sent messages I see that these two messages have never been opened.
In my second game my opponent only made one move and vanished after that, so I deleted it after the three day time-out period. In my third and current game my opponent finally started moving after almost three days, but I have received no communication so far.
Perhaps they think this will be like sitting down and playing a live OTB style game, and if they don't get immediate action on the board they just leave. Maybe they need to be emphatically told that this is correspondence chess and so don't expect to see immediate moves here!
I wonder if a new member needs some sort of brief but informative "guided tour" introduction to the site when they sign up. I don't know what they currently get but something of that nature might be beneficial in keeping new members around at least long enough to finish a game and give the site a decent try.
Originally posted by mwmillerAnd here was me 'hoping' that it wasn't my WAFFLE that put them off replying, but a default set to hiding all opponents messages as I'm STILL awaiting my first reply from anyone lol...

I've had very very similar experiences to those you've highlighted here, sending in-game messages and also PM's...my PM's were just reminding them that they'd actually created a game with me and that their time was running down, but they were never actually opened. I'm tempted to leave alone just in case these members returned, but I think I will delete those games from those that have not moved in any game.
I agree with regard to making everything as clear as possible for new members here...certainly without putting anyone off continuing to play here once they've set up an account, but lots of people are not truly aware when differentiating turn based to 'live Blitz' for instance...
It must be very hard for the site owners and 'informing' new members, tempted to give as much introductory info' as possible but also considering that it can actually overwhelm some folk...and they'd just give up before they've even started...personally I think that a lot of essential info could be 'superimposed' into greeters games, in the in-game messaging section there could be lots of info' passed on like on a '1-10 essential RHP tips \ info'...all manner of things could be imparted like; 'did you know that there is a Blitz micro site here'...'you can send Personal Messages to any member by doing this... ...' etc etc. There is more than enough room to enable this feature AND allow player to player messaging. It's just the first thing members see here, the board, certainly for those that make it to actually playing a game that is lol...
Providing New Red Hot Pawn Members with a link to its Clubs Index and inviting them to consider joining would present them with an opportunity to make friends early; we all learn the ropes with greater ease in a relaxed environment. The benefits of such a unique online correspondence chess site feature certainly would have benefitted me in July, 2007. Club 2776
