Suppose it turns out that when we all die, God is actually a slimy green worm that eats corpses and is nothing at all like he is depicted in any of man's holy books. Would you still maintain that this is the beast that Muslims have worshipped all along? Of course you wouldn't.
Thus, what exists has nothing to do with objects of worship, as they are mental constructs. Even if the Green Worm God turns out to be a creature that thinks you ought to hate your neighbor, Christians still will have worshipped a God, a different God, that thinks you ought to love your neighbor, as such a God was the focus of their worship; they haven't been worshipping the Green Worm beast merely because he is the God that happens to exist.
Positing the Green Worm God is sufficient to demonstrate that you and reader are notionally mistaken in your analysis of the question, unless you actually do maintain that people have been worshipping such a beast all along if it turns out that that's what God is like.
