Life and existence and the universd is about God's plan.
We were trained to think there is no plan or purpose.
About 7,000,000,000 theists around the world have been "trained to think there" is a divine plan or purpose. When you say "we", to whom are you referring?

Lol. Not nearly that many.

And "being trained" is not in and off itself wrong.

I have also been trained that gravity will cause me to come down to the earth if I fall. Training can reflect upon what is true.

The nature and source of gravity is something we can make objective assertions about that we can both share and demonstrate.

Suppose there were a religion based on the Ten Commandments of the OT plus "Love God and your neighbor as yourself" and that was it -- no promise of immortality, no heaven, no lake of fire. How many adherents would this religion garner, d'ya reckon?

Sounds like Jomh Lennon's song "Imagine".
Some biographer on Lennon said ...[text shortened]... inies to all mankind came much more to the forefront in the NT when eternal redemption was revealed.
I was replying to Kevin11, who proposed

"I've noticed that in some cases Christianity seems to have a special appeal for highly egocentric people.

Wouldn't you agree?"

Yes, I do. A promise of personal immortality is a big recruitment point for certain types of people, such as egotists.

I agree that the Hebrews did not make much sense out of a life after death; they believed in prosperity in this life and posterity, one's descendants revering one's name -- hence the long lists of who begat whom, thereby reverencing the ancestors. So, there you have an example of a religion without immortality (or where it plays a very minor role, compared to Christianity). Take out the promise of eternal life from Christianity, and what've you got left: basically, Judaism plus one commandment.

I would not sugeest you follow me.
Still who would you find more worthy to be an attraction than Jesus ?

And the stuff about the geneologies?
There is a overall divine orchestrating Mind upon all of Scripture. And the linkages of
geneologies have the purpose of leading up to the Messiah.

The Author of the Hebrew Bible knew and had God's incarnation in mind. He was way ahead of man. And the common theme and uniting line is from the first man to Jesus the seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15) promised Adam and Eve.

A woman's seed meaning probably the miraculous virgin birth of the man with Mary as His mother and God as His Father.

I forgive anyone who has insulted me with whatever words I did not like. Recently, I begin my prayers with a request that God would have mercy on all my enemies. If I have any, I begin some of my prayer sessions with this first request:

"Lord, you did say for us to be forgiven as we forgive those who trespass against us. Please Father, have mercy on all of my enemies or anyone who has trespassed against me."
Do you think publicising this activity by you makes you appear like a Sadducee praying on a street corner?

It may appear like that with some.

Do you deny that there are public prayers sometimes in the Bible ?

Melchesidek,
Joshua,
David,
Solomon,
Nehemiah,
Jesus,
Stephen,
Paul

There is a time for private praying and there may be a time for praying within hearing of others too.
