Yes, the RCs have this crazy notion that people who died are alive in heaven after death. A pretty strange and unusual idea among religous people I am sure...

Yes, they pray to mary, but not in a worship way or the way most people see it.
They pray to Mary to ask her to pray for them. Again, as I origanlly said, it's like asking a close friend to pray for you, it won't get you into heaven if you do, and it won't put you in hell if you don't.
