@chaney3 saidCorrect - the damnation to hell stuff is fear porn, and it isn't scriptual or logical - we can discuss if you wish.
From what you've written, it seems like you're suggesting that one should make the decision to "follow Christ and His teachings", to the best of your ability.....and try not to sin.....deliberately. Is that good enough?
Jesus talked with His disciples about helping the poor, visiting people in prison, feeding the hungry, clothing those who need it, etc., but how many p ...[text shortened]... in service. And it's these in between times where we're most vulnerable to commit some sort of sin.
Some people are in a position to put a lot of time into this others can't it's about your personal circumstances. You don't have to spend x hours preaching to tick a box; it's about doing your best.

@neilarini saidIn terms of the Deuteronomy text quoted in the OP, how do you choose life?
Jesus for breakfast?
What's wrong with toast?

@chaney3 saidThis is an interesting text but like most of the bible it needs to be considered within the immediate context of the surrounding passage and also the wider themes in the bible.Verse 19 must be read with verse 20. 19 and 20 need to be read with the whole chapter 30.
Deuteronomy 30:19
"I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life"
What do you suppose it means to choose life?
Does it mean overhauling your current lifestyle?
Or is it personal for each individual?
It all comes down to a bit of a Hobson’s choice though isn’t it. Choose life or death by choosing to follow the Lord, or at least a less long and less prosperous life.
Note that crossing over Jordan wasn’t a choice, the people were led over and the choice is about whether or not they follow the Lord in the land he has given them. Salvation is free, discipleship is very expensive!
As for your thoughts on whether this choosing is about lifestyle I would not be able to comment. Probably an individual thing between you and God or at least it’s just a good secular decision.
