Cults i think generally have a charismatic leader, for example, Scientology with its emphasis on the teachings of Hubbard, or more militant ones like Aum Shinrikyo, the Japanese Domesday cult which let off poisonous gas on the Japanese metro system under the influence of the teachings of Shoko Asahara. We can think of others like the David Koresh leader of the Branch Dvaidians of Waco, Texas.

I also think that cults tend to be secretive.

When is a cult not a cult?
Do you belong to a cult?
Is it a derogatory word or neutral?
Wiki says
In the sociological classifications of religious movements in
English, a cult is a religious or social group with socially
deviant or novel beliefs and practices.
but goes on to say

And Mormonism and JWs and Southern Baptists and ...
Cults??
...........a particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
Any other meaning is false.
In these current times the word cult has taken on a negative meaning.
*Did you know that the Swastika used by the Nazi's is actually a Vedic symbol of unity, but it has taken on a sinister meaning due to its association with the Nazis in the second world war.
Hitler along with the British tried to destroy the Vedas, because they both could see and understand the power of the Vedas and how the Vedas could challenge the status quo of the Third Reich and the Christian Judaic influence.
So as with the word cult..................it has been misunderstood, but only by ignorant persons.

If being "novel" is a requirement, than a cult is just a religion in its infancy.
"Out of the mainstream" might be saying it better. The question is, "how far out of the mainstream?" Cult usually don't attain their "cult" status until they start exhibiting "fringe" behavior.

I'm not the only one who has pointed out your asinine arrogance. It seems part of your online persona.
If we met in person would you be so abrasive? I doubt it. You use the net as your shield so you can express your hatred with zero consequences.
BTW, that is not the sign of an evolved person. You can't be arrogant and spiritual at the same time. They are incompatible
