yes true - he needed someone to kick him in the right direction ... elders or something like that.
I remember when Nirvana hit the airwaves, i was living in student accommodation, those pretentious and thoroughly annoying pseudo goths the cure were on the front cover of NME (always featured gay bikers on acid and the sultans of ping) , Michael Jackson was number one in the album charts and Nirvana exploded. It was so refreshing to the artificiality that was endemic at the time.

I think part of him just wanted to get high, out of it, and that's harder then it sounds as a rock star. If he had just been more lazy maybe he would still be alive. Hole are a good band to. Miss World, like them, think he wrote her songs. But yes he was brilliant, and compared with the misery tom York dredges up, even though talented, it was very refreshing, just cool , at last!

I took the mickey a bit about your Revelation 6 Threads. But its true some parts of the bible are darker then others, and it does seem to make reference to hell on earth. Was thinking about least favourite hymns; 2 come to mind.
Radiohead - Street Spirit
Possibly the defining british tragic song of the 90s to my mind. No one does depressing like Thom Yorke and this is him at his bleakest. But there's a couple of references that I wonder about relating to Revelaton 6. Here are the lyrics;
"Street Spirit (Fade Out)"
Rows of houses, all bearing down on me
I can feel their blue hands touching me
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole
And fade out again and fade out
This machine will, will not communicate
These thoughts and the strain I am under
Be a world child, form a circle
Before we all go under
And fade out again and fade out again
Cracked eggs, dead birds
Scream as they fight for life
I can feel death, can see its beady eyes
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole
And fade out again and fade out again
Immerse your soul in love
IMMERSE YOUR SOUL IN LOVE
"their blue hands touching me" could be, probably is not but - Acrocyanosis an untreatable condition that no one is sure of the cause... ok out there.. but...
"Cracked eggs, dead birds
Scream as they fight for life
I can feel death, can see its beady eyes"
I'd bet is a reference to the film "Come And See" Based on World War 2. There is a pivotal scene, if you can bear the film where a character treads on a birds nest and the chicks fight in vain for life, that's one of the milder bits of it - here is the trailer. I don't want to be too morbid but what do you think of that RJ? The films title is taken directly from revelation 6.
Come And See - Trailer.
To be less morbid but still depressing I like the Pet Shop Boys quite a lot, I don't know if Neil Tennant is a Christian but they sometimes touch on religious themes - This song I really like though its sad, About Thatchers London in the 80s. What he balks at in this song a Christian would balk at too, the whole album its on is good.
Pet Shop Boys - Kings Cross
Now as its Sunday I thought I'd rant on THE PERILS OF A GODLESS EXISTANCE!!!
I like you atheists' but I think there are many pitfalls that being a Christian helps you with... these songs cover a few and are very good songs too 🙂 And somehow I have managed to get metallica (its a cover better then you might think!) into the thread...
Metallica - Turn The Page - Perils of being godless!
Bonnie Tyler - Its A Heartache - The Perils of depending on someone too much.
Pet Shop Boys - Rent - The perils of shopping
Originally posted by e4chrisIn reference to "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" perhaps you are correct, I don't know, but it does seem as though he had some psychological distress he was trying to deal with in that song and perhaps he had recently saw that movie that influenced his lyrics.

I read Tom Odell is worried about people pirating his record, out monday.. I think he will be rather rich.
This is my next song that could be misconstrued as Christian. (might be some of these dance bands are..) more up beat 🙂
Rudimental - "Feel The Love" ft. John Newman
